| Where, exactly, are we located? | ||||||||||||||||
We are on the top floor of a modern building (please note: there is no elevator/lift, but this has never been a real problem) on a small hill in the Cayma District in Arequipa. This is a very quiet neighbourhood; the air quality is excellent, and we enjoy splendid views, also from our roof terrace: westwards to the city of Arequipa, eastwards to the Andes (Chachany, Misti). |
||||||||||||||||
The view from there - as well as from the living/dining room downstairs - is just fantastic. |
||||||||||||||||
The "ground floor" bedroom is quite spacious, with a lot of light and with two (standard size) beds (WiFi and cabel TV available), and you have your own bathroom (hot water shower/WC). There is a desk where you can read or write or place your laptop, and there is enough space for your belongings in a built-in wardrobe. In the event of cold nights in July and August, we will put an electric heater in your room, if you so wish. From your room, you enjoy a splendid view overlooking the city of Arequipa. |
||||||||||||||||
If not discovering Arequipa and its surroundings, you can of course also stay in the large living/dining room as well as in the small living room, where you will find Cable-TV (including BBC, CNN in English and Spanish, Deutsche Welle, Télévision Française, RAI, Televisión Española, Peruvian and other Latin American Channels, Movie Channels, Sports Channels, etc.) and a lot of books (including dictionaries, travel guides, etc.). We also maintain quite an impressive collection of CDs and cassettes with Latin American music and the classical repertoire (Mozart in particular). Enjoy some additional pictures: the view towards the Misti from the „Mirador de Cayma,” (a viewpoint approximately 150 m from our house); a typical alley near the Plaza Yanahuara, and Arequipa’s main square („Plaza de Armas”). The “Penthouse:” On the upper/top floor, a recently refurbished “penthouse” (with WiFi and cabel TV), with direct access to the roof terrace, is available. It includes a master bedroom (queen size bed) plus a small bedroom (standard size bed), and a bathroom/shower-WC, |

| Commuting to and from the city centre | ||||||||||||||||
Commuting to and from the city centre is easy, since we live fairly near downtown: public transport (there is a stop 50 m from our house) approx. 10 to 15 min. (approx. 40 cents of a USD); by taxi 5 to 8 min. (between USD 1.40 and 1.60). Most of our guests, however, prefer walking (approximately 20/25 min.). – The Plaza de Cayma as well as the Plaza de Yanahuara are also within walking distance (5 to 10 min.). |
||||||||||||||||
| Room rates | ||||||||||||||||
The package price includes breakfast, and the arrival transfer on check-in day from Arequipa International Airport (please note that a stay of less than two consecutive days does not include transfer). – Non-use of the transfer service or breakfast does not entitle customers to a reimbursement. – All rooms are with international cabel TV. – When arriving on check-in day by bus, we reimburse the effective cost of the transfer (maximum: the equivalent of USD 3.50), and we will let you know beforehand which taxi you should take at the bus terminal to get safely to your Arequipa home. – Laundry Service: USD 2.00 per load. |

||||||||||||||||
Half board (lunch or dinner): add USD 7.00 per person. A meal (we are more than glad to prepare typical Peruvian dishes and/or Arequipa cuisine) includes soup or salad or an appetiser (starter) plus a main course, and a dessert (plus complimentary coffee or tea and bottled mineral water). Vegetarians are welcome. – Please be aware that our cook, Mrs. Ana, is an expert in preparing (inter alia) genuin "home made" Peruvian dishes. – Please note that lunch and/or dinner may not be available consecutively seven days a week (in particular not on Sundays and/or Public Holidays), i.e. the availability of meals other than breakfast is, in principle, subject to our discretion.
Payment (full balance) is due at the latest the day before departure and must be paid in cash (USD or Soles). The deposit for the keys is USD 50.00 or S/. 150.00.
Travellers with children Travellers with children are welcome.
Excursions and sports As your hosts, we will, of course, assist you in your travel undertakings in and around Arequipa. Two of the world's greatest natural wonders are found in the Arequipa region: the Colca Canyon and the Cotahuasi Canyon. – Colca Canyon: we will help you to get you a suitable package in terms of schedule and price and will inform you about possible special offers. – Cotahuasi Canyon: we will provide advise how you can organise a trip on your own to the deepest canyon in the world (3354 m/11.004 ft.). |

Cultural events My Spanish Language School (EDEAQ) publishes twice per week a handout of local current cultural events, which we share with our guests. – Sample copy (14 May 2010): click here. – Please be aware that during the summer holidays (January, February and early March), the frequency of cultural events is fairly low. |

P.S. Those who would like to know more about Arequipa (history, architecture, sights, leisure and sports, excursions, typical cuisine, etc.) are welcome to open the page „Arequipa (Leisure and Sports).” More practical information relating to Peru as such (flights, climate, money change, etc.) is provided through „Hints And How To Get There.” And those who are looking for a good introduction into Peruvian history, politics and relevant sociological and societal aspects will find comprehensive information (“Country and People”) that my Swiss husband (he is a University of Zurich trained sociologist) has written and compiled. Please note that the three mentioned links have been elaborated for my Spanish Language School (EDEAQ) - so do not be confused when you read in some rare occasions about students, just replace the word “student” through “guest!” |
